Etana is pushing single ‘My Man’, which was inspired by her wanting to show and embrace the positive side of men in Jamaica. The single was recorded with producer DJ Frass on his independent label, DJ Frass Records.
“When I was getting ready to write the song, Tarrus (Riley), asked me ‘wah would yu man want to hear?’, and I said my man would want to know that I honoured and appreciated him and that sentiment is expressed in the song. I also want to counteract the bad that was emerging in Jamaica with that perception that men were rapists, perverts and abusers. I want to uplift and elevate the good side of men,” Etana told Loop.
Etana is of the view that people are too quick to criticise men and only highlight the negative things men do in society.
“People are often too quick to criticise men and focus on the bad, but we need to elevate, uplift and encourage the good men out there, because the good men outnumber the men who do wrong, and they need to know that we appreciate them, this song can set that precedence,” she said.
“The song is already being played on IRIE FM, and we will be moving to get it in the streets via mix tapes and street selectors this week…people are already asking for it,” she adds
Etana recently performed her megabits, ‘Wrong Address’ and ‘I Am Not Afraid’ before a crowd of 10,000 fans in Nairobi, Kenya at “Dobba Fest” held at the KICC grounds on March 18th, 2017 alongside reggae stars Luciano and Richie Spice.
