New secretary of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Ben Carson, has come under heavy criticism for referring to slaves brought to the United States against their will as “immigrants”.
“There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less,” said Mr Carson, in an introductory speech to staff at the HUD after he was confirmed by the Senate last week.
“But they too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, great-granddaughters might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land,” he said.
“OK!! Ben Carson….I can’t! Immigrants? In the bottom of SLAVE SHIPS??!! MUTHAF—- PLEASE!!!,” Hollywood Actor Samuel L Jackson tweeted
