A medical team from the United States has cancelled its mission to the island in the wake of the murder of two missionaries in St Mary.

The cancellation was announced Saturday during a memorial service for the life of Harold Nichols, 53, and Randy Hentzel, 48.

The medical team was expected to have arrived in the island on Saturday. However, the team advised its contacts in Jamaica of the cancellation citing the murders, which sent shockwave across the island and further cast Jamaica in a negative light on the international stage.

Nichols and Hentzel were killed near Albion Mountain, in St Mary, and their bodies found on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1.

Nichols, who has been living in Huddersfield, Boscobel for some time, was the official liaison officer for all J-Teams in St Mary.

Hentzel worked as an instructor and Bible teacher. Hentzel was also living in Jamaica at the time of his death, residing in Tower Isles, St Mary.
