The event, which is in aid of infrastructural development at the Jamaica National Children’s Home, and is the first of 12 live shows, will see the veteran artiste performing only his conscious-minded lyrics in an intimate setting with fans.
Managing director of Village Blues Bar, Steve Billings, was optimistic about the success of the venture, saying that Sizzla Kalonji is an ideal figure to start off with, as he has been an advocate for consciousness for many years now.
“Sizzla is always promoting consciousness, always an advocate for positive message and charity. So, he’s the best person to have to start this venture,” he said.
Some fans have never before had the opportunity to see Sizzla upclose and personal while in his element. However, they are now being provided with this opportunity for just $1,500 which, according to Billings, is tremendous value for money.
“The patrons will have clean reggae music, exotic cocktails, nice food, great ambience and good customer service at their disposal. Then, Sizzla Kalonji performing his conscious hits over the years, what more is there to offer?” he said, while noting that only 200 tickets will be made available at Genius Pharmacy (Portmore), Tashamay’s Fashion in Constant Spring, Mod 36 and Village Blues Bar at Orchid Village Plaza, Liguanea.
Billings also noted that the theme is ‘strictly reggae/no dancehall’ and therefore, “we are only focusing on top reggae artistes for the remainder of shows.”
Among those are Queen Ifrica, Etana, Tanya Stephens, I-Octane, and Richie Spice. He also mentioned that the staff at children’s home has graciously welcomed the initiative with open arms.
“They have welcomed it. Who wouldn’t want to welcome charitable donations with an open arm?” he said.
In a recent TVJ interview, the singer, born Miguel Collins, said it was a great feeling to be part of the venture and has promised fans an absolute great time out.
“Sizzla Kalonji has always been representing change, righteousness and upliftment. So this is just another experience, am grateful to be part of,” he said.
Billings is expecting patrons to have a warm time as they will get the luxury of greeting the man himself, sign autographs, and have their own interview sessions.
Gates open at 6 p.m., show time at 10 p.m.
