Dancehall recording artiste Govana aka Deablo hits back at Masicka in his new single “Bad Man Bad,” off the Head…
Masicka
Hailing from the thoroughfares of St. Catherine; Portmore native and burgeoning Dancehall star Masicka is on a path to create his own legacy in the annals of the music industry. A resident of Independence City and graduate of Calabar High School, this savvy lyricist was destined for greatness from his infancy at the popular Kingston-based institution which ironically is also the alma mater of Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel and former Jamaican Prime Minister Percival James (PJ) Patterson.
After being given the stamp of approval from peers and teachers alike, Masicka soon graduated to the streets where he met friend and current manager/producer Leon ‘Kabba’ Brown and Addis Pablo. Brown at the time was a songwriter for several of the industry’s most established names and Addis an emerging producer and son of Reggae stalwart Augustus Pablo.
2009, marked the year that catapulted the young virtuoso into the spotlight after entering a deejay competition hosted by Caribbean entertainment giant’s HYPE-TV. Driven by ambition and some venomous lyrics he was subsequently named the winner copping an opportunity to record with musical powerhouse Equinoxx Music. This soon led to a cult-like underground following of teenage fans. However, it was the breakout single ‘Go Hard N Done’ that gained him the attention of the Jamaican music industry.
As the year’s progressed, Masicka found himself working with a number of industry heavyweights namely: Don Corleone, Equinoxx Music, One Motion Music, Dre Day Music, TJ Records, Junior Reid’s – One Blood Family, Markus Records, JA Productions and European based Hemp Higher Productions among others.
Since his entry into the business, the fast rhyming lyricist has released a plethora of songs that continue to scorch the airwaves while vying for a position on various charts across the Diaspora. Some of his most successful singles include ‘Baddest’, ‘Go Hard N Done’, ‘No Big Deal’, ‘Karma’ and ‘Why Me Work’ to name a few.
In 2013 the latter two found their way onto the radio playlist in the United Kingdom which marked another milestone for the young singer. Other accomplishments include multiple nominations for ‘Best Upcoming’ and ‘Best New Artiste of the Year’.
In 2012 Masicka, the only rising act was selected among a group of top-tier entertainers to perform alongside American rap star Rick Ross during his visit to Jamaica. Armed with the desire to excel and a growing fan-base Masicka is touted by many insiders to become a force to reckon with in the ever-changing space of Reggae and Dancehall.
